Who are we?

Welcome to our blog! It is a long time that I plan to write one…but I rather sew then write…and I am a expert procrastinator.  Some introduction …We are a family owned business. Our company is under the leadership and management of Jan and Ria Pretorius. We love making beautiful unique items for ourselves, our families and friends.

My love affair with fabric started as a young girl. I made dolls dresses from left over dress fabrics under the watchful eye of my mother. My mother made all our clothes herself using a Singer hand machine and later an Empisal electric machine. I would sit quietly with her, watching how she sews a dress for me or my sister; or mending my dad and brothers clothing. Sewing was essential for my mom, but then when she felt like relaxing she would make a quilt from all the left over dress fabric. Nowadays this is Crazy patchwork. As a young artist living in the countryside the right colour fabrics and notions was hard to come by, so one had to be creative and make do with what was available.  Before the internet you were limited to your friends’ ideas and the library. Today we have access to so many more ideas and inspirations that the sky is the limit… or, as I say, your imagination.

Jan and I love crafting. We make quilts, sew general household items, make clothes, teddy bears, embroider, and make model airoplanes, doll houses and everything in between. We have to admit, we have not done scrapbooking…yet!

Our shop was located in Brentwoodpark Benoni in the Uncle Tim’s Centre. We now moved to fully online and taking it a bit slower. We love to see what you are doing so please write us, share pictures on our various platforms.  labroderie.co.za; labroderie321@gmail.com; whatsup 074 642 9845; facebook La Broderie; @labroderie
